You Showed Up!

Recently, we told you about one of our residents who grew up in foster care. He moved from home to home, never quite sure what came next. We told you about how he had earned something remarkable: a spot in college this fall, becoming the first person in his family to ever do that.

We told you he was excited. And a little scared.

And we told you that unlike most college freshmen, he wouldn't have a family loading up a car with sheets, a lamp, a fan and all the things that make a dorm room feel like somewhere you belong. We asked if you would help.

You said yes.

Because of your generosity, he has already started this next chapter with more than just confidence, he's heading in with all he needs to succeed in college. The items you gave aren't just practical. They are a message, from you to him, that says: We see you. We believe in you. You are not alone in this.

That matters more than we can say.

We know how hard this young man had to fight just to get to moments like this one. We know that the difference between a young man who thrives and one who struggles can often come down to something as simple as feeling supported and that someone cared enough to show up.

You showed up.

He has already done the hard part. He earned this opportunity through his own determination and grit. Fortunately, as he walked into that dorm room for the first time, he did it knowing that an amazing community stands behind him. That is something he will carry with him far beyond his first year. You are the reason our young men get to look forward to better futures.
